Other Area Activities:
  • Saturday morning Farmer's Market around the State Capitol
  • Shop/walk/eat on State Street
  • Visit the Memorial Union terrace, which faces lake Mendota, and walk lakeshore path.  In June the Union is alive with students and Madison natives, along with all sorts of strollers, sailors, rowers, and runners. The Union sits right next to a wooded lakeshore path that heads west past the university dorms, as well as the campus of the UW Hospital. Eventually the path connects to Picnic Point, the tip of a small peninsula that extends into Lake Mendota. Picnic Point, a good turnaround spot, offers a picturesque view of the state capitol dome, the UW campus, and the rest of downtown. Lakeshore path roundtrip from the Memorial Union is five miles.
